Flu and Health Education

Flu Information:

FROM THE CDC! "Information regarding swine Influenza" - The CDC has published interim guidance for clinicians regarding management of patients with HIV who have been exposed to or who have contracted the swine influenza. Any influenza carries potential risks for persons with HIV infection. It is known that adults and adolescents with HIV infection, especially persons with low CD4 cell counts, are at higher risk for viral and bacterial lower respiratory tract infections and for recurrent pneumonias. Because adults and adolescents infected with HIV experience more severe complications of seasonal influenza, it is reasonable to assume that they are also at higher risk for swine influenza complications.

Therefore, CDC strongly encourages clinicians to familiarize themselves with the interim guidance and organizations with Web sites to link to this guidance, which can be found at: http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/guidance_HIV.htm.

Regarding communicable disease reporting and the Universal Reporting Form (URF):

NYCDOHMH disease surveillance is a cornerstone of overall health of all NYC residents. To that end, it is essential that all providers promptly report all communicable diseases and conditions as required by law on the NYCDOHMH Universal Reporting Form (URF). For any questions or to report cases immediately, call the DOH Provider Access Line at 1-866-NYC-DOH1 or, after hours, the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 .

You can also download the URF at:
