Amida Care Participates in End of Aids Roundtable Discussion on Wabc’s Long Island Viewpoint
December 7 2014
On Sunday, December 7, 2014, an episode of WABC’s Long Island Viewpoint aired featuring a round-table discussion on Governor Cuomo’s Task Force to End AIDS as an epidemic in New York State by 2020. Among the guests were Amida Care’s President and CEO, Doug Wirth, who was joined by Benjamin Bashein, Executive Director of ACRIA and Tracy Gardner, Policy Co-Director at the Legal Action Center. The segment was hosted by Eyewitness News anchor Ken Rosato and can be viewed here.
In discussing the mission of the Task Force, Doug Wirth highlights the need for everyone to know their HIV status, and connecting people living with HIV to the care and medications they need to achieve and maintain undetectable viral loads. He also speaks to the social barriers that inhibit access care, which Amida Care is addressing within the Task Force and through our DSRIP planning grant. This includes unstable housing, stigma, co-occurring mental health and substance disorders, criminal justice issues, along with cultural and language barriers. We hope you enjoy watching the discussion.
